Ask About Elastomer Testing

What is Elastomer Testing?

Elastomer testing is used to evaluate compounds and material properties, as well as to evaluate finished products and components on their performance for research, product development, and quality control purposes. It is used across a wide span of industries, including automotive, oil and gas, sporting goods, and more.

Elastomer testing is a crucial tool that helps you ensure the best quality products and highest level of research and development. For consistent and timely results you can trust, work with an accredited lab staffed by experts on rubbers and elastomers, like the test laboratory at ACE Products and Consulting.

Elastomer Testing Lab

ACE Products and Consulting offers expert elastomer testing in accordance with ASTM standard test methods. Our ISO/IEC 17025 Independent accredited laboratory contains state of the art equipment to meet a wide range of product development and research needs for your rubber products.

ACE offers a wide range of elastomer tests that can be tailored to your product’s unique needs–just ask us! Contact us today to find out how we can help you reach your goals.

Tension Testing

ASTM D412 helps us understand the tensile properties of thermoplastic elastomers, a basic but important step in determining your material’s end use readiness.

Tension testing subjects your elastomeric material sample to tension until it fails. Through this failure analysis, and the amount of tension required to cause failure, is used as a baseline for research and development purposes across industries.

ASTM D412 tests many commonly referenced tensile and elongation properties, such as yield strength, rebound resistance, and tensile set.

Elastomer Density

Density is an important test for the rubber industry. The density of a material can confirm that the substance was produced with the correct ingredient levels. It can also be used to make sure each batch is consistent with the next.

By measuring the specific gravity of an elastomer substance using part sixteen of ASTM D297, ACE can determine your material’s relative density. Then, this density can be compared to the actual density of another material–like samples from a previous batch–or with a theoretical density.

Elastomer testing is crucial for quality control, ensuring that your rubber products are consistent over time.

Rubber Tear Strength Test

Methods for Tear Strength Testing

The test method for tear strength at ACE is ASTM D624. This test method measures the tear resistance of both vulcanized rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers. Through tear resistance testing, ACE can help you predict the point of failure–or the point of tearing–for a product when in use.

Tear Resistance

Tear strength (also known as tear resistance) can be influenced by a multitude of factors, including mechanical fibering (surface cracking), stress distribution, strain rate, and the size and dimensions of the test specimen.

This means that, in order to be accurate and effective, ACE collaborates with you to design a course of testing that is directly correlation to the material’s eventual service conditions.

Elastomer Adhesion Testing

ACE’s experts can conduct rubber and elastomer testing to reveal the adhesive properties of your elastomeric material to a variety of flexible substrates and rigid substrates, whether it be metal or fabrics.

If your rubber product has multiple components, it is important to understand how the components will adhere to each other–this goes for rubber to rubber interfaces, as well as rubber to reinforcement interfaces.

Adhesion tests are commonly performed in the automotive industry for tires, and across a broad variety of other rubber products.
