Temperature Retraction

ASTM D1329, ASTM D746, and ASTM D2137

Summary

In TR-10 Testing, samples are conditioned at a specific low temperature for a determined period at a set elongation (ex. 100%)

Test Details

After conditioning, the retraction is measured as the temperature increases toward room temperature at a set rate. The most common data point is TR10, which represents the temperature at which 10% retraction occurred. Test specifications that ACE’s TR-10 testing capability meets include:

  • ASTM D1329 – Retraction and lower temperatures
  • ASTM D746 – Brittleness temperature of plastics and elastomers by impact
  • ASTM D2137 – Brittlness point of flexible polymers and coated fabrics
