This test method is used to measure the tear resistance in vulcanized rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers. The tests can be used to predict the point of failure (tear) when a product is in service.
This test method is used to evaluate the tear strength of common vulcanized rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers. Tear strength can be influenced by mechanical fibering (surface cracking), stress distribution, strain rate, and size/dimensions of the test specimen. Therefore, the tests used to predict tear resistance should have a direct correlation to the service conditions during testing.
Types of materials…
typically tested in our laboratory under this method are:
- Vulcanized rubber
- Thermoplastic materials
